Experts have come together to help businesses keep their staff and customers safe in Melbourne's CBD after dark.
The City of Melbourne and their key partners received funding from the Crime Prevention Innovation Fund to create The Night Safety Charter and Toolkit. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to create a safer CBD for women and gender diverse people at night.
Organisations and businesses that operate at night can sign the charter (External link) which incorporates 9 commitments to prevent sexual harassment and assault and enhance safety.
Businesses who sign the Charter will receive a Toolkit which includes:
- steps for making changes now
- resources to support long-term change
- information on reporting sexual harassment and violence.

In addition, Crime Stoppers will roll out a sexual violence awareness campaign. This is to encourage anyone who witnesses, or knows of harassment or assault cases, to step up and speak up.
